Of course, religion is bad news even for the believer. All that time praying and they end up dying without there being any god. That's like adding insult to injury. So loony books are bad news for everyone.

Religion is fine with me as long as those religious folks don't bother others. If someone who has lost his confidence somehow takes religion as a last resort to boost himself and comes back, then fine. If someone thinks God will give him confidence in his endeavours to attain greater goals or work towards them, fine. Even if someone believes that reading a Bible or Quraan gives him peace of mind, no problem. The trouble really starts when using religion as a tool to abuse or disrespect others. For example, let us say that Matthew says "Jesus is God and Christianity is the true religion" and a nut job makes use of that to abuse non-Christians, it becomes a problem. smile

PS: It is rather an irony that to see that this web-site has been virtually hijacked into discussing politics, Christianity, personal biographies and even global warming. We all came here out of our interest in chess. But, what we discuss most of the times is not we intended to do originally. Oh, well..... smile

Huh?! laugh

The truly saved, born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ "ending up dying without there being any god" to take them to Heaven to be with Him forever?!

Yeah, yeah I know the book is true because Jesus says so, and Jesus tells the truth because the book says so. Very circular and very convinient for people who don't bother to think for themselves. It is just that chances are both are full of crap. smile

@Russianbear:

So, just what ARE you going to do if both "The Book" is true, and, Jesus is true, (which, thus, means that it is ALSO true as to just what that both "The Book" and Jesus says happens to those people who die in their un-saved rejection of both of those truths?)

Indeed, what are you going to do then?

What are you going to do if there is a hungry man-eating pink dragon awaiting for you in your bathroom as you read these very words? So, just what ARE you going to do if that is true?

Indeed, what ARE you going to do when you DO need to use your facilities? SCARY, huh?

@Russianbear:

Well, I find it funny that you ask me that, seeing that I have just returned here to my computer from using my bathroom, and, guess what, I did not catch even a glimpse of any "hungry man-eating pink dragon" at all! laugh

Well I did not catch even a glimpse of god, either. So maybe the dragon made itself invisible that last time, because it wasn't ready to pounce, but it will get you next time. Dragons work in mysterious ways. You are in grave danger, CF.
