RB, you can forget about the match. I explained the whole FICS bullshit eons ago. I destroyed players who allowed tripled pawns (with no compensation) and who dropped queens to beginner's discovered checks--and THEN was ACCUSED of cheating and banned. We have a thread right here called "Play Fundamental Chess and Get Accused of Cheating". It happens. You instead leave out the stuff I just mentioned and that's really low s***. But totally typical of you. Too bad you screwed up a good thing--I would have righteously enjoyed blowing you off the board 6-zip.

I see no point in giving you the benefit of the doubt that you don't give to others. If you want to accuse Soviet players just for the fun of it, why can't you get accused back - especially, since you -unlike the players you yourself accuse- DID get banned for cheating by at least one anti-cheating committee? If you want the presumtion of innocence for yourself, and you want us to believe you didn't cheat even AFTER YOU GOT BANNED FOR IT - you better show as much good will to others - even if they are Soviets- as you expect others to show towards you.

And don't pretend *I* was the one who killed our match. You have been trolling the offtopic forum with all kinds of garbage aimed mostly to get me to react and at one point I decided to stay away to the point of completely ignoring the Offtopic forum to make sure we won't say something that would hurt the chances of the match being played. But then you ressurect a thread that was dead for a long time in a CHESS forum and you do the only thing I said I won't tolerate for our match - an accusation of cheating. You generalized against Soviet players, and, as I played in the USSR, that includes me. (And even if it didn't generalize, but limited your claims to those against Petrosian, for example, it would still be worth it to bring up the accusations against you in the spirit of basic fairness - and even that would still be not totally fair, as, unlike Petrosian, you WERE banned, and you are also still alive so you are at least able to defend yourself against accusations). So don't pretend I started this thing. And what do Soviet players have to do with your beef with Matt and your personal insecurities about Matt's supposed attacks on US chess, anyway? Nothing, and the only reason you brought it up is it was a calculated attack because you knew (or at least, hoped for) how I would respond so that you would have a chance of weaseling out of the match. You tried hard to do it in the Offtopic forum, but it didn't work, so you did the one thing that was sure to kill the match. Well it worked, but don't blame me for it. (Note how even after your mention of "Soviet-style cheating", I didn't call the match off, and just responded with analogous statements, to make sure the match still had a chance to get played). If the match doesn't get played, you are to blame, and what you have done is very Fischeresque. Too bad you've chosen to follow his example of off-the board antics rather than prove yourself over the board. Note that I am still ok with playing the match if you change your mind - but given by the effort you've put in into ruining it, I strongly doubt that you won't take this "excuse" to weasel out of the match, as you seem to be even more afraid of me than Fischer was of Karpov. It won't even matter that I didn't accuse you of cheating, just mentioned the very fact of your ban.

Vigoritto still did some excellent research. But he misses the Marin, Grivas, Wells, Bronznik way of forming a coherent story. His book isn't mediocre. Again, I failed to see why people on the internet would stamp this book as 'Superimbagood one of the best books ever'.

O.o and you shall address me as FM Matt from January and onwards!

Here here! That's usually a lifelong goal that many people never hope to reach the rank of! Congrats Matt!

I thought he'd taken vows and become a friar (Friar Matt). My bad. Congratulations on the FM title. Your duster doesn't match your lipstick, btw, but you'll 'iron' out those discrepancies in time. smile

Seriously though, congratulations for setting a goal and reaching it.

Well, while Bobby Fischer might not be THE very best player of all time, in my opinion, he IS right there among being in the top 3 or 4 all-time best players!

Last time I checked, we still have some great players--like Yasser Seirawan, who among other accomplishments coached the World Team to victory against the Russians.

And, from my having had some e-mail correspondence with him a few years ago, I can also tell you that Yasser Seirawan is also very respectful and classy guy as well! up up

Huh??!! confused confused

Bobby Fischer is not one of the top eight players of the 20th century??

Russianbear, your anti-United States prejudice certainly DOES show through with your quote above!

I probably wouldn't put Fischer in my list of the top 10 players of all time,

And, with this quote above also!!

Sort of says it all concerning Bobby Fischer's playing strength, eh, Russianbear?! grin
