First off, I would like to apologize to you PA as I completely missed this when it was first posted. I’m glad I finally came across it. I hope this helps answer your question.

There is no doubt that Jesus needed to die and be raised again for our salvation. He needed to do “something”, but I don’t think that “paid the price” is the best way to put it. It makes it sound like he owed somebody back. If I had to say that Christ had to “pay the price” to something, the closest I could come up with would be to death itself.

When man sinned in Genesis and was separated from God, he was cast out of Eden and began living in a fallen word which we are now all subject to. The Orthodox do not believe we are guilty of “original sin” as was Adam, we are just living in the results of his sin, a world of sin and death. Because of our human nature we have no power to save ourselves. Jesus being fully God as well as fully man, (note: not half man and half God), by his death and descent into Hades, was able to overcome the death to which we were subject. He, by his divinity, was able to do what we couldn’t, free us from the sin and death which we were born into.

Mark.
Mark, thats ok. No need to apologize cause then I don't know howmany I will have a apologize. Anyway the paying the price sounds like more of a doctrinal issue. I think we should just move on from that. Other than that, I agree with your orthodox belief except for the last part where you say "free us from sin and death" is actually "freed us from sin and death". It comes into effect on an individual when he believes it.

@South Coast Kevin:

I am going to leave what you decide to do concerning your continued church involvement between God and yourself.

That's all that I have to say about this.

Well, thank you Chess Fan - my firm feeling is that God is happy with my current church membership. But it seems you have some doubts (you feel I belong to an apostate emergent church) so I was wondering what you feel I should look for in a church, if the one I currently belong to is not a good choice.

On a more general note, I thought it might be interesting to have a little chat here about what we all think is important in a church community. Clearly there are a range of diverse theological opinions among the Christians here, but I'd be interested to see how this feeds in to our views on what church should be all about - ecclesiology, as it's sometimes called.

What a sad, pointless death... Clearly the guy's faith wasn't strong enough, otherwise he wouldn't have died crazy

Snake handlers don't feel that way. They believe that the day of one's death is fixed, and that we can't change that. He wasn't bit because he faith was weak but because it was his time to die. That's how I understand it, anyway.

Oh okay, I get you. I'm well aware that some Christians believe everything to be mapped out in advance by God, so we all have a time to die and there's nothing we can do to change it. Not my own view, but there you go!

Hello there everyone! smile

If any of you are interested in watching a video that shows how that the Lord Jesus Christ can miraculously change a person's life, then please click on to the link to "My End Times Blog" at the bottom of this post.

When you click on to that link at the bottom of this post, it will take you to My End Times Blog.

Then, when you get to my Blog, look at the post from Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 with the post that is titled: -- "Billy Crone -- (Personal Testimony) -- Las Vegas 2012 Sunrise Baptist Church."

In that particular Blog post there on my Blog, I give a brief explanation of the video, and then, I give a link to the video of the personal testimony of Pastor Billy Crone at the bottom of that Blog post.

All that I will say here is that Billy Crone's personal testimony in that video about how that Jesus Christ delivered him from a life of drug abuse, alcohol abuse, rampant sex, Satanism, and overall emptiness of heart **actually has to be seen to be believed**, it is that remarkable!!

In this video, you will see just what a **WONDERFUL AND A MIRACULOUS CHANGE** that can happen in a person's life when they come to Jesus Christ for salvation and the total forgiveness of all of their sins!!

IF any of you DO watch that video about Billy Crone's personal testimony, then, please feel free to comment here about your thoughts, etc., of what you saw and heard when you watched that video.

So, in closing here, please feel free to click on to the link to "My End Times Blog" at the bottom of this post to watch that remarkable video of the personal testimony of Billy Crone! smile

**Special Note: -- If any you DO watch that video, I just want to tell you that Billy Crone does not start talking about his personal testimony until about 11 minutes into that video!**

I just wanted to share the following **EXCELLENT** description and praise of my wonderful and precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

Quote:
"Name Above All Names"

(By Bernard Johnson)

The name of Jesus is the name above all names because it is the only name that leads men to God. It is the name above all names because it is the only name that allows a human being not only to approach God but to partake of the grace, mercy love, power and benefits of God. There is only one name that makes Satan bow and tremble. There is only one name that makes the principles and powers fall on their knees. You can wave the name of any religious denomination in the devil’s face and he will walk up and spit at it. But if you will raise the name of Jesus, every principality and power and rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places, every seat of government of satan will fall and crumble to the earth..
