We've all seen it in many of the tournaments the past several years. Basically it's the "Timeless" design from the DGT e-sets that go with their electronic boards. However, I have seen some that appeared to just be normal wooden versions without the electronics. I am wondering who makes these. I know the USCF recently made a replica set, though it's only available in ebonized for the black pieces, and also the claim of "exact" isn't well... exact enough.

I'm just curious as to where this set originally comes from, or if it indeed is strictly the set released by DGT. Thanks for any info on this!

Isn't the Timeless DGT e-set just the classical Staunton design?

This chess set is "Classical Staunton" and is sold in a Danish Chess shop and is by far the most commen chess set in Denmark.
The black pieces are made of Sheesham wood and the white pieces of Buchsbaum (Boxwood in eng. I guess). They write on the homepage that is produced in India.

However the House of Staunton make something similar. House of Staunton - championship series chess set

Thanks Rimfaxe! Actually that House of Staunton set is exactly what I was looking for because I wanted the Rosewood set instead of the ebonized set. That Danish set is pretty close, but the bishop's hat shape is different on it.

Looks like the Rosewood set isn't too expensive at $70, so I think I'm going to snag it.

Thanks again!

It is a little crazy how expensive some of the chess sets are. I have only a plastic chess set. It is ok but I have been thinking I should upgrade to a wooden one, but I always keep changing my mind once I see the prices of some of the sets I like. The above set is a little too "blah" for me - I like the knight to be a little more elaborate than that.

I'd like something like this:

But it is 500 dollars!

And this one
is 375.

All of a sudden the 70 dollar set above doesn't look so bad.

And what difference does the kind of wood make, anyway?

I'm just being OCD in that I want the same set all the elites play on in tournaments. The knight is a little simplistic, but it doesn't really bother me because of the above reasoning for getting the set. Makes me feel like I'm a big boy playing on such pieces :P
