An excellent post, SCK, with some very good points. I was going to add some more, but the more I reread your post, the more I think I have nothing I can add to it.

Yes, I checked that out before I posted looking for some 'proof' (heh-heh). Also saw a few others anagrams too which might be applicable but aren't really suitable for a board with a G-rating. You do have "I Plan a Rash", which as everyone knows, is code for planning the Apocalypse. Note that the name "Sarah Palin" and the word "antichrist" both have 10 letters, and the anagram "An a Rash Lip" starts off with "an" which are the first two letters in "antichrist", and as if more proof were needed, the word "anagram" also starts off with "an", telling us that we can see the truth by anagraming Sarah's name (she's also from Wasilla which anagrammed is "I Saw All"---a pretense to divinity).

The real proof though is in the numbers. Those sixes just keep adding up. Her birthday is Feb 11, 1964 so add those numbers together (2=Feb) and you get the number 33, which added together is 6! She took governor office on Dec 4, 2006 which adds together to equal 24 which adds to 6. [btw both Alaska and antichrist begin with "a".] She was mayor from 1996 to 2002 (6 years, in two 3-year terms (33 again!), and with her included, her family unit consists of 6 people. A poll in late September showed her to have 66% popular support among Alaskans. And believe me, that is just the beginning!! No matter where you look, those sixes keep cropping up! And if you examine the dates given above and the number of days in the year and between dates and from end of the year and beginning of the year, you'll see even more sixes and patterns within patterns, all coming out to 6!

[caveat: I've been reading rosenberg and lindsay so i may have adopted some of their thinking patterns recently]

And I wouldn't be at all surprised if her measurements were 36-26-36. All right, apologies to proloy. I'm convinced.

Hmm, another bit of 'evidence'. Work out how many days old she was on the election date, Nov 4, 2008 (16,338 days old). Then take the date she was elected governor of Alaska (Dec 4, 2006), add together that date (12 + 4 + 06 = 24). Then since she was elected halfway through the day, add 0.5 to the 24 to get 24.5. Now take the 24.5 and divide it into her age in days on the Nov 4 election date, drop the decimals, and you have 666.

So 16,338/24.5 = 666.

And just so everyone is clear on this, I'm not denigrating Palin in any way. Hal and Joel on the other hand....

We really need to declare a war on innumeracy. No doubt it will meet with the same resounding success as the war on cancer, the war on drugs, the war on illiteracy, the war on terrorism, the war on violence....(ok, I think I made that last one up...maybe??). smile

Well, Ken, I am quite certain that Hal Lindsay and Joel Rosenberg are *not very concerned at all* about their being denigrated by a person like you who has *no* Holy Spirit enlightenment about what the Scriptures of God Almighty Himself have to say about End Times prophecy. grin

Who are these Lindsay and Rosenberg characters then? I've just skim-read their Wikipedia entries, once I'd got over my confusion at there being another Joel Rosenberg who writes novels.

Are they influential in the USA? Do they have Holy Spirit enlightenment?! Is there anything more frightening and un-Christlike than calling for a nation (Israel) to launch a pre-emptive nuclear attach against another nation (Iran) as Rosenberg does in his latest blog entry?

The fantasy novelist* Joel Rosenberg writes some great novels that captured my imagination. Unfortunately I can't seem to find them in the libraries now.

*ok, that description might fit the endtimes J.R. too

The other Rosenberg though is just more of the same type of tabloid sensationalism that has infected so many believers. I don't know what he personally believes so can't comment on that. I can comment on his theology though with the same two words GM Tony Miles gave in his review of Eric Schiller's book Unorthodox Chess Openings (see Miles' Wikipedia entry, under Personality, last sentence smile ). Rosenberg is just another talking head who will be shown to be wrong, just like every talking head has in the past.

Lindsey wrote the 70s book The Late Great Planet Earth in which he laid out the endtimes for us. When he reprinted the book a couple of decades later it was missing some of his earlier predictions such as the role that Communism would play in the endtimes. Communism was no longer the big bad boogeyman of the cold war so he removed prophetic references to it.

David Matthews has a starter essay on Lindsey if you're interested in reading it. An excerpt below about his first book.
Quote:
Since the time of Hal Lindsey’s writings, the four spheres of power have changed dramatically. The most dramatic of the changes is the dissolution of the Soviet empire, which is very significant because of the great role that the Soviets will play in the future outlined by Hal Lindsey.

4. “Many Bible students in recent years tried to fit the events of World War I and II to the prophetic signs which would herald the imminent return of Christ. Their failure discredited prophecy.” p. 43.

A pattern is found here among the Modern Day Prophets: Events of the present are fit into prophetic scenarios of the end, and these scenarios invariably fail. Hal Lindsey does not differ in quality from these failed Bible students. Where they attempted to fit World War I and II into prophecy, he attempted to fit the Cold War into prophecy. In later years, following the conclusion of the cold war, others would attempt to fit the Gulf War (1991) into prophecy and they would witness the failure of these efforts. Some today are imagining different scenarios for a future war which would coincide with prophecies and provide an avenue for their fulfillment.

It is amusing that Lindsey quotes Deuteronomy 18:22 in the beginning of his 70s book. "‘When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word which the LORD has not spoken’". Good thing we still don't stone false prophets.

Lindsey has been wrong in the past, Lindsey is wrong now, and Lindsey will be wrong in the future, unless he retires in embarrassment at being so wrong which isn't likely as most people have short memories, and his target audience is used to being spoon-fed by authority figures so it doesn't even occur to the audience to double-check what he says. You don't even need to know how to Google information (which seems to be beyond some people). All you need to do is read his first book to see how much has come to pass. And for the future all you need to do is take his current book, wait 10 years, and see how much has come to pass.

A while ago I found a webpage which had scanned images of his first book and the 'reprint', and you could read for yourself how he changed the text and altered the meanings. Seems rather deceitful to me. Unfortunately, can't find it right now. I may have linked to it earlier in this thread though...I'll check.

If we ignore his twisting of the Bible in order to divine the future (isn't divination a sin? wink ) and just look at his scholarship, it seems he is just as dishonest there. The Biblical Viewpoint reviewed his book The Road to Holocaust
Quote:
Lindsey, never known for his "scholarly" style, came under harsh criticism in an 11/93 Biblical Viewpoint review of Lindsey's 1989 book, The Road to Holocaust:

...this book is Lindsey's rebuttal to ... dominion theology or Christian reconstruction. It is simultaneously a defense of the dispensational premillennial position. Unfortunately, the book does little more than give additional ammunition to the former and weakens the credibility of the latter. ...

"Lindsey's characteristically accusatory tone ... suggests that the author has only a surface understanding of the reasons and motives behind the reconstructionist position. This suspicion is only heightened when one finds apparent plagiarism rampant throughout the book. His entire biographical section on reconstructionists appears to have been lifted directly out of Dominion Theology (a previous work by Wayne House and Thomas Ice) right down to the order and specific phraseology of the text.

"Chapter 11 is particularly egregious; the author fails to demonstrate an independent investigation and first-hand understanding of dominion theology, since 33 out of the 43 footnotes duplicate the footnote material in chapter 12 of House and Ice in Dominion Theology, and only seven of these duplications note their previous citation by House and Ice. In addition, misspellings abound (pp. 258, 264, 289, 290, 292). ... If anything more damaging than the uncredited appropriation of unoriginal material noted above, it would be the author's inexcusable Greek word blunders. ...This is from a man who, according to page 296, majored at Dallas Theological Seminary in New Testament and early Greek literature."

By their fruits, you shall know them. The man is either quite stupid, delusional or a deliberate liar. Rosenberg differs in that you should probably add "dangerously delusional" to the aforementioned choices. It is fitting J.R. appeared on the Glenn Beck show....both are twisters of the facts, and I know that at least one of them deliberately tells lies.

Wiki says he converted to LDS. On the air he referred to himself as a Christian though. Mormonism and Christianity are quite different in central beliefs though and shouldn't be confused with each other. On youtube he talks about his conversion. I suspect he's Mormon in a similar way many people call themselves Christian---they only have a vague understanding of what they actually believe and why they believe it....it doesn't seem to have any real impact in the way they behave outside of quitting things like drinking and smoking. I could be wrong though.

Well, thank you Ken. You've certainly given Lindsey both barrels there! I've had a quick look at that David Matthews essay and if his criticisms are at all fair then Lindsay is indeed just another failed and false prophet.

I despair at the certainty and the lack of humility in the excerpts from Lindsey's book - I just hate that style of writing (and speaking) which bullies the reader into accepting the argument. In fact, we probably all know someone who speaks with great confidence even on issues that they don't really know much about. And some meek folk find it very hard to disagree with or question someone who communicates like that. Makes me mad!
