Wow, thanks Spock. That analysis is better than I hoped for. I missed the authoritative and authoritarian thing (and other things). I'm going to go back and reread that paper with all your points in mind. So much to learn, not enough time....
The authoritative v authoritarian distinction is an easy one to miss because it is rarely used outside of child rearing and psychology is still very fractured. I'm moderately certain you'll find the same basic distinction in organizational structures, but with different labels. But that too is largely ignored, unlearned, or misunderstood by many, many, many policy makers and business leaders.
