Oddly enough, this post comes from The Weatherman, NOT from the guy who posts pictures of his dinner (this guy didn't even bother to post a photo). And two people clicked LIKE to this!

Well... when in Rome, do as the Snamor do. So I posted this status update, not as a response to his, or any other, just as my own new update.

I bet I don't get any Likes for it. There's no justice, I tells ya.

Well, all that I know is that my Philadelphia Phillies beat the winner of the 1980 AL Playoffs, (the Kansas City Royals), in the 1980 World Series to become the 1980 Major League Baseball World Championship team!! grin up

Well, this blew up in my face. When I posted this, someone responded who didn't know what "AL" stood for. This led to an interesting observation about how unlike most sporting leagues, which told you what sport they played in their title (National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major Indoor Soccer League, et cetera), that Baseball thinks thinks they're too good to tell you what sport they play because you should just know. Hence, "National League", rather than "National Baseball League".

Even when I make a good faith effort to TRY to say nothing at all, it goes wrong and ends up having some kind of content. I don't know how the Weatherman, Dinner Man and Chess Fan consistently do it. Er... don't do it. It's tough.

But this is a good rule of thumb for non-Americans and non-sports fans to remember. Even if you've never heard of the Continental League, Federal League, or Players League, you should be able to tell that they were baseball leagues, precisely because they don't tell you they're baseball leagues. If they played something besides baseball, they would tell you.

Ah, but the English Premier League is soccer, not baseball. Maybe that's English arrogance arising from the fact that soccer was invented here (and not called soccer here, for that matter!).

I'm not up on English Football, so I didn't know that. But is it just that one league that doesn't name the sport in its title, or all English football leagues like that?

In America, I can't think of any exceptions to the rule off the top of my head.

Most soccer leagues in Europe don't have the name of the sport in their title - or if they do have in in their official title it's not generally used, as leagues are commonly referred to as Bundesliga (Germany), Serie A (Italy) or Ligue 1 (France), for example. I guess that's simply because soccer is by far the most popular team sport in most European countries, so the leagues are well known and there's no need to specifically mention the sport.

The name of the game is soccer. Get with the program, you metric-loving Europhiles!

Gee, I wonder what it's doing? Think how much less we'd wonder if she'd actually told us.

Someone "Liked" this comment. I wonder why? A sadist, most likely. "She's suffering! I don't know how, but she's suffering! Good! Bwa ha ha ha ha!"

How many of you saw the Hatfields and McCoys

What makes this one funny is that it has three "Likes", and zero replies. Even though a reply is what she's asking for!

Are we to assume that "Like" = "Yes, I saw it and liked it"? Or "Yes, I saw it, period"? Or "I like the question because I'm going to see it but haven't yet"? Or "I haven't seen it, but my last name is Hatfield and I like hearing it"? This one takes poor communications skills to a new low.

There, I just clicked Like even though I haven't seen it and don't plan to. Hey, when in Rome...

Saw this on facebook and thought that it must belong here somehow:

I'm sick of Facebook statuses with song lyrics I don't know, sort of inspirational quotes and/or accusations vaguely directed in my general direction/to some unknown individual, out of the blue observations more suited to Twitter, and shame on you statuses that do nothing to actually fix the problem but promise that with enough likes, everyone will somehow notice and not be annoyed by the irritating message on their newsfeed! Like this if you agree.
