A little peeve here. This quote, which typifies Muller's hubris, is from Muller's opening in the WSJ. There were no good reasons to doubt. The data had been examined, reexamined, rereexamined, and analysed using newer and better methods for the past 13 years by researchers and statisticians around the world. It has been scrutinized by the best who were trying to tear it apart. All methods, improvements, elimination of flaws, resulted in very minor changes, hardly noticeable when superimposed over previous efforts.

Within the scientific community, there was no reason to doubt. Within the statistical community who had looked at the data (in a blind test--they didn't know what data they were looking at), they knew there was no doubt. The only people who seem to be surprised at the BEST team's findings are the BEST team and the deniers.

As the preeminent science journal, Nature said, Different method, same result.

I'm going to publish my findings that show the earth is round. There were good reasons for doubt, until now. I'll also have to write-up my observations that demonstrate the earth goes around the sun. There were good reasons for doubt, until now. [/snark]

Climate scientists discussing the Berkley work.

As far as the basic science goes, the results could not have been less surprising if the press release had said “Man Finds Sun Rises At Dawn.”

As they point out, warming was predicted decades before it was seen based on physics and chemistry. People don't realize that when they say there is no warming they have to explain away not just the warming data (from temps to glaciers), but also have to come up with an explanation as to why it is NOT warming because basic physics and chemistry predict the more CO2 the more warming--there's just no getting away from that.

An informative infographic on the amount of Arctic sea ice (area only) that has been lost in the last 30 years. For North Americans, it is an equivalent area of every state east of Kansas plus Kansas. For Europeans, it is every country from the Atlantic inland not including Russia/middle-east, the Scandinavian countries and Ukraine.

Click on the link to see volume lost (in the comments) where ice volume has been lost in every month, even in winter.

Ice is being lost faster than the IPCC models, which are conservative, indicate. Still doesn't stop Faux News and associated politicritters from saying the ice is recovering every time there's a small uptick...but they're so ignorant they claim global warming is done every time they have a big snowstorm.

Strangely enough, you don't hear a peep from them during the summer heat waves and the unprecedented Texas drought.

Tucson has some very nice areas...mainly the parts that are not in Tucson. smile I loved the outdoor museum, and on my next trip want to spend a few days in the park. Plus visit the Audubon store again where they have great deals.

Will avoid the Super8 though...that was a pretty scuzzy hotel quite unlike the Super8s in Canada. Room 1 still had beer bottles in the garbage cans and wasn't clean (bathroom dirty), so they gave us a second 'clean' room--which had a used condom lying on the floor. It felt like a hotel you'd find in a developing country. I'll have to get your advice on good hotels next time.

Another milestone in Global Warming is reached.

The development in Global warming seems to be going worse than even the most pessimistic predicted. And nobody seems to care...
