Fabiano has been skyrocketing up the ratings chart. Did you have any idea when he was a little kid that he'd knocking on the door of the top 5 in the world?

The last round is looking to be really interesting. Of course the biggest match is on board 1, where Hou Yifan will take on Caruana. Really like both players, I am not sure who to root for!

I knew as soon as I met him and watched him play one game. He was 11 years old at the time. He will be World Champion one day - I think he has been playing in all these opens to practice playing in tournaments - so he can win the Candidates.

Hou let him off the hook with a bad sac. The game is equal now.

Close, but no cigar for Hou. She had a completely winning advantage and then lost it with a tricky sac. A good recovery by Caruana, congrats on winning the tournament!

It was the best possible last round pairing with the 2 stars facing off. The best player won the tournament! At the closing ceremony, Icelandic Foreign Minister and the Chinese Ambassador talked about all the diplomatic efforts to get Hou Yifan to play in Reykjavik at the last minute. I might add that China(with 1.5 billion people) and Iceland (with 310 thousand people and the size of England) seems to be quite a good match politically. After the last round, I did say hello to Fabiano from Inky. He remembers you! Here is Fabiano with some local dignitaries (and Peter Doggers from chessvibes who got in front of me) after getting his 1st prize.
