In the following article, Ron Graham talks about how true, Bible-believing Christians not only receive hostility from the secular, un-believing world; but, how that true, Bible-believing Christians ALSO receive hostility from other people who CLAIM to be Christians themselves: -- "Secular Hostility? Well not Exactly"

And in this article Ron Graham gives out some hostility of his own to Rick Warren and Brian McLaren. He doesn't even do his targets the credit of quoting them properly, which makes me think he is misquoting and misrepresenting their views.

Here's the article that I assume Ron Graham is referring to, that Brian McLaren wrote for Sojourners:

Sojourners article

And here's a quote from the above article, which perhaps explains more clearly what McLaren is unhappy with:

Quote:
[One key issue is:] The need to confront the terrible, deadly, distorted, yet popular theologies associated with Christian Zionism and deterministic dispensationalism. These systems of belief — so common among my fellow evangelical Christians — too often lead people to act as if Jewish people have God-given rights but Palestinians do not. They use a discredited hermeneutic (way of interpreting the Bible) to imply that God shows favoritism — that God is concerned for justice for one group of people and not for others. They create bigotry and prejudice against Muslims in general … and in particular against Palestinians, many of whom are Muslim but many of whom are Christian too.

Christians are always going to disagree with each other about matters of theology but I think it looks a whole lot better if, when we do so, we act with integrity and treat each other with dignity and respect. McLaren's article uses some strong words in dismissing the theology he disagrees with but Graham goes much further and clearly implies that Warren, McLaren and others are not really Christians. A couple of sample quotes (I've added the italics):

Quote:
But what Bible believing Christians should not be enduring in any form is the astonishingly clear hostility coming from folks who also profess to be Christian.

Quote:
Jesus Himself tells us to expect hostility (persecution) from the world and indeed we shall. But from those who actually profess to be our brothers and sisters in Christ? Doesn’t this fact alone prove that every person who professes to follow Jesus isn’t necessarily born again but may actually be following His nemesis?

I think RGs messages is too focussed on who brings the hostility when I would expect him to be focussing more on how to respond as a Christian in times of adversity. The devil can act through practically anybody - a non-believing Christian, a professing christian or a bible-believing Christian - to bring in that hostility. One day he can use a few from one group, another day from another bunch so I don't know how far identifying those people are going to help in anyway to prevent the hostility?

I think this is the reason for the fear. I think the situation in Deut 25:18 would apply to people in RGs group. Here is set of people who were not following strange individuals but were following a mighty man who spoke face to face with God and were in perfect plan of God. But disaster stuck them because they were feeble. God kept quiet and the man of God couldn't do anything as a set of people who did not fear God struck the people of God. That is why Paul advises in Ephesians 6:10, be strong in the Lord. Daniel 11:32 says, those who know their God shall be strong! Okay I understand RGs concern but I think he can easily get the message across by just sticking to quotes from Bible.

I actually read this article which began in a positive way, but in the middle this woman, who seemed to be ignorant of everything except that she was narrow minded, and therefore going to heaven, started a rant, full of lies, about how awful "liberals" were.

To really believe in something and hold steadfast to that belief, you must learn all you can about other beliefs. If you ignore them, you are narrow minded, indeed. She claimed that Donald Trump was narrow minded about making money, and therefore he was rich. Donald Trump has also allowed himself to learn about many subjects, and to ask advice from many people. Therefore, he has learned enough to make him wealthy.

Don'[t know why I'm doing this again...but maybe it's just the liberal in me. I want to know how everyone else feels and believes about many things - including G-d - so I can judge for myself what path I want to travel.

I should know better than to read these links, because they are always just repeating the same thing over and over, and I don't really learn anything about the Conservative Christian beliefs, or the reasoning behind their beliefs.

So, pleasant dreams or good morning...depends when you read this, if you bother to read it at all. crazy

It sounds as if the woman was confusing "narrow minded" with "focused."

If you want to be successful you need some amount of focus. When you are focused on one thing you will often be ignorant of something else. You really can't help it. However, you will not be successful and ignorant in the same field.

(Okay, there are certain fields where you can be successful for a relatively short period of time despite a general lack of knowledge...but eventually luck runs out.)
