Time isn't on Anand's side either. The black position looked so solid before g5 or even Ne4. Very strange play from Anand from my point of view.

Maybe Anand was hoping to somehow get his kingside pawns going, but it won't happen since he'll be completely tied down by White's pieces on the queenside after something like 26.Bxe4 dxe4 27.Nd2 f5 28.Nc4 Nf6 29.Nc5.

I you are going to f5 with two moves, when you could have done that in one, it just shows how badly you've played.

Playing f5 in two instead of one move reminds me of variations of the Ruy Lopez where Black plays Be7, Bf8, g6, Bg7—and that seems to be the best in many cases, but here obviously something went terribly wrong...

Anand going for desperate tactical tricks with mate threats after fxe3 Nxe3 and Ng4. But certainly Gelfand isn't going to blunder to this.

Only Gelfand can save Anand now...

So five games left for turning the match. That's definitely not the end of the world yet for Anand. Btw, does he have draw odds?

No draw odds, there'll be a rapid play-off if the match is drawn. It should definitely make the match more interesting now that Anand has to come up with something.

I believe we'll hear from Anand some day, that he played Ne4 thinking that the rooks have already been exchanged on c2. It looks perfectly ok at that time, and black has practically completely equalized. g5 was completely unnecessary, and practically throws the game away. Black was just one move away from equality, which was Rxc2. Anand simply underestimated his position too much. Don't know why, because I kind of feel confident if I get that kind of position with black.
