Moderators, the "Games and Morals" thread has become an evolution thread, and there are posts in "Politics 2" about Creationism. As those two things seem to be related, I've opened this thread. I appeal to you to move the related posts to this thread.

I just thought this when I posted my latest comment in the Politics thread. Good idea, Ed.

Glad you like it, Kevin. Evolution is a very good scientific study, almost a textbook of scientific method. It perfectly explains many things, such as the adaptation of bacteria to antibiotics, which Creationism utterly fails to even address.

I would just add that evolution should not be defined strictly as a genetic idea, since evolution happens across almost all systems, such as language, religion, economics, politics, etc. To define evolution as strictly biological is far too narrow a definition.

with regard to evolution/creationism as a discussion though the debate is with evolution as biology, not the more general definition of the word.

Even within biology, the term "evolution" encompasses a pretty wide variety of things, and that causes things to get muddled very often, so I'm not sure trying to use an even broader definition helps much.

Obviously though from the sports thread the discussion was more about those extra-biological questions so if we are going to pull that thread in it makes sense, but I think it's worth pointing out the need to be clear about what is actually being argued about.

That is why I posted above, because when I attempted to talk about evolution in a broader sense, Ed kept trying to define it in only the genetic one, and that is unfair.

Moderators lack the ability to move individual messages. Anyone concerned with tidiness can follow a simple procedure to transfer ongoing discussions to this thread: (1) Find the message to which you want to reply and hit quote. (2) Highlight the relevant text and copy it to your clipboard. (3) Without hitting "Add Reply," navigate to this thread (your browser's "back" button will work wonders here). (4) Paste the highlighted text into the reply window, add your message, and post. Successfully completing steps 3 and 4 will prove that you are more evolved than rondino.

Okay, let's reverse things a bit here. smile

First of all, here is the answer: ".0000000001%."

And, now, here is the question:

"What are the chances that the discussions in this topic thread will change anyone's mind concerning what they believe about BOTH Creationism and evolution?" laugh

What about the world religion thread, CF? Will that change anyone's mind?

This could go here.
The whole idea of the FSM is not to attack any religion, but to show how ridiculous it is, to put religion into science classes. Those are ideas and beliefs and myths, you can believe in whatever you want, but it has nothing to do with science.
