Any thoughts on my idea of giving draw odds to the player who finished better in the FIDE Grand Prix (or a world tournament championship, which would essentially be a candidates plus the world champion)? The more I think about it the more I like it. It avoids a tie-break and yet doesn't give one player an advantage, since both challenger and champion start on the same level in the GP. It would also give more importance to the GP if the champion (and any player who's likely to be qualified for the candidates by rating) has an incentive to participate.

Well, while I am certainly NOT an Anand "fan"; (I am "rooting" for Gelfand to win this match over Anand), I also DO want to say that I DO consider Anand to BE one of the TRUE top-level World Chess Champions IN the Steinitz line of World Chess Champions.

CF, that is a welcome improvement! Hopefully you will soon come to the realization that Anand is the best ever in the kingdom of chess!

Does not give one player an advantage? In which world? Immediately anti-FIDE will pitch in and throw their weight on some money yielding, FIDE antagonizing pet candidate and fix some players in his favor.

Here's a tiebreak idea: in the event of a drawn match the title becomes vacant. The world champion is supposed to be the best player in the world, and if he can't beat the challenger then he is not that.

This would put a gun to the head of both players: win or get nothing. That would make the games sharper and there would be more decisive games.

Of course, it's not perfect.
