The games are all cool enough this round, I thought I would start a thread.

Aronian - Morozevich is a Stonewall Dutch (!), and Aronian has just sacrificed a bishop on h7. Both players are pretty low on time (about 30 minutes for 25 moves til time control), so anything could happen.

Grischuk - Caruana is close to being a masterpiece by the Italian GM. He gave up the exchange in return for a killer pawn center and severe pressure. He has just won back the exchange, and Grischuk is unable to castle. He is also very low on time.

Radjabov - Carlsen is a rook and bishop endgame, but Carlsen is leading on time with 1 hour 17 minutes to Radjabov's 15 minutes, with 15 moves to go til time control.

Some of the games look headed to a draw, but I would say there is a slim possibility we see a few Black victories!

With 5 players at +1, 3 at -1 and one at = Petrosianic's prediction is starting to look good. Standings after round 7:

Some blunders in round 8. Seems to me that the players are getting into time pressure quite often. Perhaps counting on the 30 seconds increment per move to much?

These last few rounds have been pretty crazy. Morozevich has lost three in a row, Kramnik has lost two in a row. McShane has won twice in a row and is now back to even, while Naka and Aronian are sitting towards the bottom at -1. Going into the last round, Caruana is in clear first at +2!

And the final round was pretty crazy too. Carlsen takes clear first with a win over McShane (who went for a desperate kitchen sink attack in a position that was clearly worse, but didn't look lost yet) while Caruana goes down against Aronian. Kramnik-Moro and Tomashevsky-Grischuk still going on.

Grats to Carlsen, who wins outright with +2, undefeated. He definitely got some help in the last couple of rounds, but fully deserves his victory.

What does that mean, "deserves his victory"? Barring exceptional circumstances, doesn't almost everyone who wins deserve it?

I thought Moro was pressing for a bit, but he's got zero chance of winning now. Not much chance of losing either.

Kramnik and Moro drew on Move 72. After the recent championship match, I didn't know it was even possible for a chess game to last that long.

Well, I guess I just threw it in there because there are untold hordes on places like ChessBomb claiming that he doesn't deserve it, that he just got lucky, and that is his play didn't warrant a victory. Of course whoever won would have deserved victory!

I think that if McShane had beaten Carlsen in the last round, he would have won on tiebreak. He would have tied for first with 5/9, and had the same number of blacks as Caruana, but would have had more victories. Close tournament!

Congrats to Carlson. Of course I'm sad that Fabiano didn't win, but he played a good tournament.
