I like the poll the way it is. The only thing I would change is, in the first question, make clear that it's about the shorter game, in case of two.

I think people are voting G/60 thinking about the longer one.

The way it is, we could have a "shorter" tournament G/60, and a "longer" G/45!!

Yeah democracy is difficult isn't it. Do that many people really want the G/45 or is that just everyones second choice?

Perhaps the format would be more meaningful like:

Would you play in a shorter time control tourny?

if yes what time control?

Would you play in a longer one?

if yes what time control?

The current poll is probably good enough to get a feeling for interest in 2 tournaments and general interest in time control.

Despite these issues, we seem to be converging on a concensus. There are at least 7 people interested in a longer tournament, so that's looking like a promising thing. It looks like that tournament would probably be G/60, barring any upsets when the remaining people vote.

Obviously we'll still want to wait for more votes, but for the shorter tournament, it's looking like people are happy with the approx. 30 min per side length, but a slight majority seems to want a time increment.

One more point to discuss... Ren raised the idea of letting people decide their own time controls. I don't think it makes sense to have significantly longer games compared against shorter games, but it might make sense to let each pair choose between G/30 and 25/5, since those are very comparable time controls. Maybe...

It's a good idea but there's a potential for some hurt feelings. Say I want a 30/10 but Surfer wants 30/0 and we can't agree.

Thought about that.... one possibility is that we have an official default, e.g. either perzon can demand G/30, but if both agree then they can play 25/5 if they want. But still people could get ticked, I suppose. :shrug: Just throwing the idea out there...

personally I chose the 30/0 or 45/0 doesn't make too much difference to me..... with lots more roundz maybe 9 or 11....

Right, in retrospect the 2 votes thing was inappropriate for the way I structured the second poll. I'm assuming that the votes for 45 min per side are primarily people's second choice after 30 min per side.

I'm not making another poll though :p

In the end, we'll probably stick with one TONC G/30 and one TONC G/60, the way I :ahem:originally posted

G/40 with 5 second increment sounds nice, a little longer than the G/30, but not too long. But i'll play regardless of the time control

Sorry guys, I prefer playing the tournament the way it is right now. I think that if there were different time controls available, as somebody has put it, it could lead to potential misunderstandings, so I guess it's much better to agree on a G/30 or G/25+5 time control before the tournament begins.

Anyway, should you decide to play longer games, as I'm having a very good time, I'd play till g/45, although as previously mentioned, I prefer the tournament with the G/30 time control.
