While I admit it looks silly, how bad can it be if it features both Debra Wilson and the guy who played Larry on "Three's Company"?

It looks 'so bad it's good' - the guy does kind of look like a Young Fischer. The acting looks terrible, but the brother is kind of funny.

The only thing that could make that movie any more weird would be if they had actual chess players in it.

This looks to me like a film by a new filmmaker who is heavily influenced by director Christopher Guest. (Guest's films include BEST IN SHOW, WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, A MIGHTY WIND and he was one of the writers and actors for SPINAL TAP.)

As for why they picked a chess theme, why not>? These kind of movies start out with, "Wouldn't it be funny if...?" and then try to set up each scene so that it's delivered with great seriousness by the actors, but is supposed to be absurd to the audience.

It's hard to do. Guest is very good at it, but even so his humour is less universally accepted than a more direct comedian like Jim Carrey or even Jack Black.

Some of the worst, over-the-top, cringe-inducing acting I've ever seen, particularly from the very unfunny "brother." Note to producer....the moment Larry from Three's Company was identified as the set's revered giant of talent, production should have ceased right there. In the right hands this might have been funny but with this bunch.........oy vey

Interesting comments...I personally don't like the trailer all that much but the movie, while stupid, is quite funny. I have seen the movie in it's entirety (the rough cut). Also, do not count it out as far as being able to see it at a theatre near you sometime next year...I am one of the over-actors in this flick and you will laugh if you give it a chance.

The Knight to f4 group shot at our chess club yesterday. I like satire humor and anything to do with chess, so I think I'll enjoy it when it comes out. Unlike other film crews I've seen, these guys were the nicest, most accomodating group, yet the director was very demanding. I provided 29 youth extras who actually know how to play chess so hopefully technical errors will be low enough to not enrage the chess fanatics of the world. Tell your friends about it - chess needs all the publicity we can get.

All of you who say the acting is "cringe-inducing" obviously don't know acting. The acting is supposed to be "over-the-top" and it is supposed to look aabsolutely upsurd to an audience. The trailer doesn't capture all of the movie's humor and for those of you who completely shun it away, I reccomend you watch it again with an optomistic eye and not critical of its budget.

I was lucky enough to hang out on the set of Knight to F4 for a day and watch the director and the small crew at work. I have been in the film business for over 21 years.
These guys were very professional, the director was very demanding and they actors played their parts over the top for laughs while keeping a straight face. There were genuinely funny scenes and I REALLY had to hold my laughter in during the shoot for fear of ruining the sound.

I am curious to see how it works out when its all cut together.
