Park Chess Rats

| Permalink | 2 comments

The NYU newspaper has an article about how renovations to Washington Square Park may endanger the famous chess corner.

"I'm just going to get a mat and sit out there and play," he said.

His younger opponent chimed in, saying getting rid of chess in the park is "like saying you're going to get rid of pigeons and rats." In other words, it's impossible.

I recently mentioned the park in our places to play chess item. Most players use roll boards instead of the banged-up cement chess tables, but anyway we can hope that if they put in new tables they get the white squares on the right.

Hi Mig,

It's been about a month since the moratorium was put on harsh comments. I know it's all about quality and not quantity, but, well, maybe quantity has some value after all.

None. I'd rather have no comments than a bunch of garbage and flamebait. Traffic is the same. The quiet is because I didn't have time to post while doing the US Championship site and getting my other things in order before going to San Diego. (It may be Korchnoi's, but chess ain't my life!)

Plus, it's not like there's been a shortage of good, long discussions. I didn't see much slander in the scholastic chess thread...
