Sorry, my host shut down the blogging software's database during the middle of game five. Unless it was the same thing that turned out the lights in Sofia. Apparently the flood of comments resulted in too many long and slow db processes. I may upgrade my Movable Type install tonight to see if that helps. Otherwise I'll chop the "recent comments" section out of the templates during the match so it doesn't choke to death updating so much with every comment. Site might be down for a bit late tonight.

I'm doing more housecleaning and have a baker's dozen of old chess books on Ebay. A few very good books and some fishwrap.

- Mate in Two Moves - Harley
- Lasker's Manual of Chess - Em. Lasker
- Logical Chess, Move by Move - Chernev
- Chess Combination as a Fine Art - Golz & Keres
- How to Think Ahead in Chess - Horowitz & Reinfeld
- The Game of Chess - Tarrasch
- The Middlegame in Chess - Znosko-Borovsky
- The World Chess Championship - Wade & Gligoric
- Reti's Best Games of Chess - Golumbek
- Chess: The Nine Bad Moves - Reinfeld
- Judgment and Planning in Chess - Euwe
- Modern Chess Openings (12th ed.) - Korn
- The Principles of Chess - Mason

Absolutely LOVE the message on the WC post Mig, I howled with laughter! Well done!

"It is prohibited to send Mig fewer than three plates of spicy buffalo wings. ChessBase is violating this prohibition."

Selling more books to make room for the 2nd munchkin, eh Mig? Advance congrats...

I know diapers are expensive but why are you getting rid of all your books? I thought you were gonna raise a GM - now you're depriving him/her of the teachings of Emmanuel Lasker!

Ah, memories. The Nine Bad Moves. I remember that book well. If only chess were so simple
Unfortunately I have made at least ten, so I think the book was lost on me.
And Logical Chess was great. Looking at it much later, there are some amusing aspects. I remember for example that Chernev loved Capablanca. And QP openings. An opening move made by Capa : "Not the most forcing, but White need not be aggressive straight away". Same move a few games later by someone else: "A curiously passive move in an opening in which White must fight for the initiative". (approx quotations)

- Modern Chess Openings (12th ed.) - Korn

Anything by Limp Bizkit?

_Chess Combinations as a Fine Art_ is a great book - essentially a collection of old Kurt Richter columns....

I'll ditto that. Picked up a copy 20 years ago at a bookstore in Seattle, WA near the old "Last Exit" for those who remember that chess scene. I still read it over from time to time, as recently as last month.

Yes, great book. Several in this lot are duplicates, including that one, the Lasker, and the Tarrasch. As for the future GM, who is now one week late to the board, as it were, he'll have a better time without having to deal with descriptive notation. The worst book in the lot is the one with the sentimental value. How to Think Ahead in Chess was my first chess book. It's really just an opening system book that recommends the Dragon, the Lasker QGD and the Stonewall Colle.

So far I'm keeping the readable ones. Historical, anecdotal, biographical, tournament books and game collections. And the very good ones that are also in algebraic. I already donated around 150 that were mostly opening and instructional books. And I sold another 100 or so for a dollar each at the Central Park chess event last September. (Took around 5 minutes, which was the idea. And it was fun to see so many kids delighted to have their very own chess book for a buck.) So I'm probably down under 600 books by now.

It's the memorabilia I'm having trouble with. Lots of interesting stuff, but no place to store it or display it. Shirts, hats, posters, signed items, programs, etc. And the magazines, which have a lot of info that isn't easily found elsewhere. But they take up space and I only need to refer to one once a year or so. I need a digitized archive of NIC and my old complete run of Inside Chess. Will Kinko's do that for you? Scan them all? Bit of a copyright issue for them, I'd imagine.

epic!

I am extremely relieved that the Lasker you are selling is a duplicate!

Seems like the appropriate thread to mention the baby just arrived at 1:32am. A whopping 4.6kg (10lb 2oz) and mother and son are happy and healthy and tired. And he's loud. Big and loud. Whoo boy.

Congrats Mig!

All the best!

The best thing about their design is that you can mix different manufacturers, just like on the traditional charm bracelet. The advantage is that you don't have to get your charmed linked to your charm bracelet and can change to order or content anytime. Even our Victorian* Charms™ TreasureDrops™ can be slipped onto these bracelets (between beads) or any necklace chain. It’s a great “design you own” world. www.aokeshen.com
