Corus C Qualifier on ICC

| Permalink | 6 comments

I heart qualifiers for major round robins, even if they are online rapids. The Internet Chess Club is hosting a massive international qualifying tournament for a coveted spot in the prestigious Corus C tournament. They are playing rapid chess with proctors monitoring each player. Most of the players are youngsters, keeping with the usual Corus C theme. First round today, Nov. 1, at 10am EDT. More info here.

Is Anand playing?

Here are the A list players so far.

Corus 2009, group A

Magnus Carlsen (Norway)
Alexander Morozevich (Russia)
Levon Aronian (Armenia)
Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine)
Gata Kamsky (United States)
Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan)
Wang Yue (China)
Sergei Karjakin (Ukraine)
Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia)
Loek van Wely (Netherlands)
Leinier Dominguez (Cuba)

The field of players in the qualifier is about as strong as the Corus C group of last year:

Are they going for a stronger C group this year? If not, I think they might have considered to make this a qualifier for the B group.

wow this year they really downgraded corus... no kramnik? no topalov? at least get like svidler or someone who can cope =(

No Leko, Gelfand and Adams this time? Let's hope it will be more exciting.

Great information you got here. I've been reading about this topic for one week now for my papers in school and thank God I found it here in your blog. I had a great time reading this.
